Use this two-sided, tabletop magnetic barrier board (with a dry erase surface!) when working with children who need practice and help with:
Barrier boards are a great way to watch and assess how children listen to and follow directions. Use the barrier board along with your own magnets and dry erase markers. Have children retell a story they have heard or create story scenes, demonstrate their knowledge of basic concepts, and more by simply following a sequence of oral directions. Two children can sit opposite each other, listen to and follow the directions, and then compare their scenes or drawings to your actual instructions. Immediately pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in whatever skill you may be targeting.Give children the chance to act as the teacher by letting them give directions for others to follow, which in turn builds confidence and self-esteem. Have the “teacher” decide if the children using the barrier board followed his/her directions correctly.
